'Tis true, Paul. I can understand liking something a little less than Star Wars, but 7% more??? That's unheard of. At this time I think you need a Yoda quote:"A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind." -Yoda In other words, Yoda says don't like LOTR 7% more than Star Wars! Greg

Well first, Greg called me a "Trader"? Do I trade in stocks? Or maybe farm animals? I didnt know I was a trader.. but hey.. ya learn something new every day! quote: Originally posted by StarWarsManiac: 'Tis true, Paul. .. But since I think you mean Traitor.. I dunno. Obviously I am a fan of Star Wars, but more of the Empire than anything else. So EPI didnt really rock my socks off because of a few main reasons. One being, of course, Jar-Jar, much like the retarded Ewoks, they rubbed me in all the wrong ways. Also the whole Midiclorian thing with the Jedi was somewhat retarded I felt, I dont know why Lucas decided to go in that opposite direction. However, I did like the subtle references throughout the movies to the original trilogy, or things to come. Seeing Palpatine saying "And young Skywalker.. we'll be watching your career with great interest" really got me off. But but.. EPII.. I dunno, I was left with such a lukewar->mildly hot feeling after EPI, its almost hard to get as excited this time around. I read in a magazine (Cinescape I think) back in May about the main plotline for EPII, and it sounds pretty good, and I know I'll see it, perhaps at the 12:01am showing as I did EPI, but.. but.. and but.. It's LORD OF THE RINGS! Arguably the best fiction novels Ive ever laid eyes on. Of course I do have to wait until the full EPII trailer comes out, but right now I orgasm when I see the LOTR trailer, it is so well done, so emotional.. so.. just damn cool, its hard not to be excited. Furthermore, LOTR comes out in a little over a month, so heightened excitment is pretty common, due to the proximity to release. I would say my excitment factor is very high for LOTR, though slightly less than as much as I was excited for Episode I. I really hope I am not let down though, but I think LOTR is going to be a new classic trilogy. It is very hard, I would hate to have children, oh the woe of picking a favorite! Sigh. But yeah, one last point, to my novel. The main thing that makes me jizz in my pants over the Star Wars prequels is something I dont even know will be included (though I pray each and every night). A few years ago, when I first heard that the prequels were going to be a reality, it was the first scene to pop into my head. And it is as follows.. well since Obi-Wan knocks Anakin into the lavapit (or some other hot molten stuff) and mortally wounds him, Anakin turns into Darth Vader.. I cant wait, at the End of EPIII for the doors to open and a brand spankin new Darth Vader comes strolling out to the Imperial March. Oh man, my life will be complete. Viva la Empire!

Kristen: Awesome! That is awesome, thanks for putting my ass on your computer. That was two years ago, I was a mere 15 years old!Paul: I agree Jar Jar wasn't the best character to enter the Star Wars galaxy, but I don't mind him as much now. I did at first, but after watching Ep1 many times on DVD he doesn't get to me as much, he falls further and further into the background or "whole scheme of things" each time I watch. The Midichlorians pissed me off, as well, but I guess saying "I believe in the Force" would be like saying "I believe in god" without a Bible, or set guidelines. Science ruins imagination, but I'm not as bothered with the 'Chlorians after a bunch of viewings. I don't put the prequels in the same ballpark as the Classic Trilogy. The technology is new, there are things that are amazing to watch that could not have been done years back. We're not living in the 70's/80's anymore, and neither is Star Wars. If GL tried to keep the technology at a stand-still, keeping everthing in line with the Classics, I think it would hold back the story, along with what GL wants to express. If GL decided to make the Classics today instead of when he did, they would like so different. He explained on the Ep1 DVD that he had to keep ships cheap/boxy looking due to special effects and materials. I'm glad we're able to see the difference through two trilogies. I know your beef isn't in the special effects, but I thought I'd just throw that out. I've always imagined that same scene as you, Obi-Wan hitting Anakin into a pit of lava, physically and mentally letting the dark side overwhelm him. I just hope that it looks cool, if it happens. James Earl Jones is supposed to give his voice for the last few minutes of the third film, so who knows. With EpII I am looking forward to seeing Tusken Raiders and Jawas. From what I hear the Sand People play a HUGE part in the film's story. I'm also looking forward to the Coruscant nightclub scene, it's supposed to be remiscent to the Chalmun's Cantina scene from A New Hope. I also hope that GL throws in a bunch of classic aliens into the film. Only a handful of old species returned in Ep1. I'm done ramblin' for now, I'm glad I can talk Star Wars here! Greg

Well back on the MEANINGful part of this topic..My beef with EPI is mostly that it did not really feel "strong" enough, as far as movies go. Perhaps its due to it being only the first piece in a new trilogy, but I dont think it stands on its own as well as the other three. Though it could be perception, since I didnt see the original three come out in theatres, so I only saw them all together. Either way, EPI just doesnt "do it" for me. Too many things just seemed totally wrong, I guess thats what I get for being a purist. Like the whole Tattooine situation, wtf, you have Anakin in the new trailer @ what looks like Uncle Lars and Aunt Beru's place! WTF! Then why does Vader seem so uninterested in Tattooine in EPIV? Ahhhh I hate it. I really hope Lucas clears everything up nicely by EPIII or Im gonna raise my own private idaho.. err hell. Grr. I dunno. I will admit the EPI DVD made me appreciate EPI in its own right a bit more, but its still very lacking, in pure emotion I suppose. Blah. Only the Duel of the Fates got me all riled up, but the rest was just kinda scenery. For use of a perfect quote to describe my own feelings.. "Your lack of faith is .. disturbing" But oh well, there is always the original trilogy. Now it only it would come out on DVD. Sigh.

Wow! Ladies, I must say that all of these posts have made my cheeks red (both sets)! Thank you for your kind words. Also, w3rd souljah, thanks for the drawing, it's awesome!Paul: I do agree the film isn't as strong. For me, though, it seems I enter a magical dreamworld when I watch the movies. They made me happy and make me think. Episode 1 is no exception. As long as the new ones follow continuity, I'm set. If they throw something off-course big time I'll be on the rampage. You have redeemed yourself. You are not a traitor ALSO: BIG NEWS!! Jay's post hinted at it, and he's right. I am moving soon, maybe in a month or two. I am moving to Indianapolis, Indiana. I'm happy and sad, but mostly happy. Greg
