OK. I need some webspace - I'm not prepared to pay a penny, but I don't want any banner ads or pop ups. Anyone know of any good webspace providers?
Also - any place where I can get a small nice counter would go down a treat.
Cheers!

most isp's provide their users with a small amount of webspace which comes in the cost of your subscription, usually only 5mB or so but it's something. so check with them if you do[n't] have webspace.
fasttrack provide counters for free it think, i forget the adress. so yeah.
what's it all for?

ok...well usually it's members.[insert isp].[com/net] like : members.iinet.net.au
and then just the user name and pass you use to login to you isp with when you dialup. with a normal login type.

OK, I gave up on my ISP's space and opted for envy.nu which I must say strikes me as a bit of a girly host, but hey, this is the eighties.
And in order to boycott globablisation and big business and all that I went with a linkexchange.com counter. (Ha.)

the website of your host doesn't have an FAQ page or an FTP HELP page to make sure you have the right address and username/pw in there?

try WS-FTP-LE, it's free (get it on http://www.download.com ) and it's easy and cool to use.
And if you got a socket error it's prolly because either you can't access ftp services on your computer or that the ftp server you're trying to reach hasn't a correct address. Usually, the address is like ftp.thewebspace.com. If you have to specify a port number, select 21 (FTP)
