Topic: Need Help Getting Rid of Hacker...

So this person has been IMing me under different s/ns and he manipulates people's s/ns and IMs me with them. The person says they are a hacker and he/she keeps buggin me. It's someone linked to my sister somehow. But we don't know who it is. He's been using my sister's friends s/ns and today he used her's by changing using an l instead of a 1. Does anyone have any suggestiong on how to find out who it is/get rid of the person...without changing my own s/n? Or how to get the persons IP address (but i don't really know what that would help) Well if anyone can help at all, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

yeah... you can get his IP work out the provider from there and then just report them and say "bitches". or something.

i know very little about this type of stuff cept the IP thing wouldn't really help you a whole lot, usually IP adress are dynamic and a different one is assigned each time a person logs onto their ISP. unless of course they have a permananent connection (cable, adsl etc etc) but even then...you could always trace it back to the ISP and then ask them if they can help you.

oh to trace...

open an ms dos box and type
tracert [ip adress]
it has a max of 30 hops but if they're local they may even be using the same isp as you so it shouldn't have toomany unless it's being routed elsewhere.

the last line should have something aluding to an ISP name and should be the person IS, ring them and say...bitches, as phil suggested.

well, i know in ICQ you can see their IP, and you can then trace back that way... perhaps there is the same sort of thing in AIM?

Run your results through there and get lots of information. I don't really understand what is going on, but samspade is cool dude.

well, if you are using aim i can help you out with a prog that i have that send a "link" to them, when they open the page it sends you their IP. from there you can samspade.org.

If you've been introduced to the TCP/IP lore, then download a crack of NetXray. This powerful tool will make you decipher IP packets and even you could redirect your IP without having to use a proxy. Oh yeah, if the dudde's a real hacker (which I doubt, cuz he wouldn't brag but would act, like a real spy never says "hey look I'm a spy"), then he prolly uses an anonymous proxy server, so tracking his IP would be pointless.

Also, if you can attract him to a page of yours that could host php, cgi or any server-side language, you could easily make a program that trace his IP.

Like Paul can know everyone's IP here. SO do I with my sites. And as said above, IP are allocated dynamically (it would cost too much to have static IPs) but range of IPS are allocated to ISPs so you can tell which ISP it is, if you can tell them that at a very precise time, the dude was using that IP and was being a jerk, they could track him down.
But, seriously, why would they believe you. For instance, if I wanna bug you, I could get your IP and say you were talking shit to me or talked about a terror attack you're gonna commit or whatever.

SO... let it go. Block him. Warn him. That's what it's for, ask William
Ask him, if he's a hacker, what he's gonna do to prove it...then laugh...
