CONGRATS JODY! I am sure you wanted a girl. Afterall, it seems most girls want girls and boys want boys. (Me, I really just want a happy, healthy baby. Either way is actually wonderful)Mike, They do an ultrasound and check for the development of a penis. No penis girl. Unless they have a really small penis, then they are called future monster truck drivers. Incidentally, i got to hear my little beans heartbeat today. First ultrasound and everything is good. 12 more days until i can call it Cletus the Fetus, right now its just bean, a bean thia is due somewhere around July 16-19 2004.

Land, money, a girl, that can be understood. Now war over god, that's a whole different issue. There is no way I can justify a war over who has a better invisible friend.

Congrats again Jody and Norm!I, like you Norm, didn't have a preference either way...a happy, healthy baby was all I wanted...the weird thing is that all of my family members (Mrs. Munkey incuded) though we were destined to have a girl...even co-workers, after seeing Aimée in her pregnant state, predicted that we would have a girl...after our second uultrasound, their predictions were somewhat validated when our OB told us that we were indeed having a girl...by then I was so resigned to the fact that I hardly even reacted, except for maybe a smart-assed "tell me something I don't know"... Hearing your progeny's heartbeat for the very first time is something you'll never forget...It's actually both very pride instilling and frightening at the same time...when I heard Caitlyn's heartbeat I had no idea how to react...and the fact that it was so rapid was enough to freak me out a little...but I was assured that the rapid pace was totally normal...it's a sound that still resonates with me... In any case, I'm really happy for you both...and don't worry, you'd be surprised how much sleep your body can go without ...

Ya know...I really didn't have much of a preference, but actually leaned a little toward the boy side. I think just because I have been around little boys a lot more so feel a little more comfortable with them. Plus, I feel like there are more worries associated with girls. But, I, and just about everyone I know, also predicted a girl for me. I will be very happy with a healthy baby girl. As far as determining the sex goes, it was pretty unscientific. The tech just looked at the monitor and checked between the legs. In our case, the baby was really in the fetal position so the legs were pretty closed, so we may still be surprised. They can be exact if a woman has an amnio done, but you wouldn't want to go through it unless necessary for other reasons (it is generally required if the mother is over 35). That is were they actually inject a needle into the woman's stomach and extract a fluid sample. Okay, enough sex ed from me. Norm...So happy for you. I hope your girlfriend is feeling good.
